Monel

Monel alloys are characterized by their remarkable resistance to sea water, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkalies. At Progressive Metal Manufacturing, we supply these alloys—primarily Monel 400 and Monel K-500—for applications where standard stainless steels succumb to stress corrosion cracking and pitting.

Technical Advantages

Marine Superiority: Virtually immune to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking;

ideal for stagnant or flowing sea water.
Thermal Range: Maintains excellent mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to  $480^\circ\text{C}$.

K-500 Precipitation Hardening: Offers the same corrosion resistance as Monel 400 but with three times the yield strength through added Aluminum and Titanium.

Performance Metrics

Acid Resistance: Highly resistant to rapidly flowing brackish water or ocean currents.
Non-Magnetic: Monel K-500 is non-magnetic even at quite low temperatures, essential for electronic shielding.
Workability: Excellent weldability and grain structure for heavy-duty fabrication.

Applications

Marine propeller shafts, pump impellers, oil-well drilling tools (K-500), chemical plant valves, and heat exchangers.
