AISI 4140 (80 KSI / 110 KSI)

AISI 4140 is a medium-carbon chromium-molybdenum alloy offering a superior balance of strength and ductility. We supply this grade in two primary high-strength conditions—80 KSI and 110 KSI—tailored to meet specific load-bearing requirements in the oilfield.

The material is generally austenitized within the temperature range of 840°C to 875°C and then oil quenched to develop the required hardness and strength characteristics. The final mechanical properties are further adjusted through tempering based on the target yield strength. To achieve an 80 KSI yield strength, tempering is typically carried out at a higher temperature range of approximately 600°C to 650°C, promoting improved toughness and ductility. For applications requiring a 110 KSI yield strength, the tempering temperature is usually reduced to around 540°C to 580°C to retain greater tensile strength and hardness.
